Richard Joseph Nichter, Sr., 78, died Saturday, March 2, 2002 at Harborside Healthcare. A native of Fort Wayne, he was a letter carrier for the U. S. Postal Service and retired in 1981. He had previously worked for Fort Wayne Dental Lab for 20 years. He was a member of St. Andrews Catholic Church and the VFW. He was a WWII Airforce Veteran. He enjoyed volunteering at St. Mary’s Soup Kitchen and making rosaries. He is preceded in death by sisters Maxine Robertson, Lorena Rowan, and brothers Larry and Ray Nichter.
He is survived by wife Dolores Nichter, Fort Wayne; daughters Devona Hendricks, Fort Wayne; Karen Jernigan, Fort Wayne; Paulette Briesh, Fort Wayne; son Rich Nichter, Jr., Zanesville, Indiana; sisters Marjie Koorsen, Fort Wayne; Charlene Derickson, Poe, Indiana; brothers Robert Nichter, Poe, Indiana; Jerome Nichter, New Haven, Indiana; Jack Nichter, Fort Wayne; George Nichter, Fort Wayne; 12 Grandchildren, and 7 Great Grandchildren.
Services were held Tuesday, March 5, 2002 at St. Andrews Catholic Church with burial in Catholic Cemetery. Memorials to St. Mary’s’ Soup Kitchen.
