Little River Wetlands Project, a local nature organization protecting over 1000 acres of wetlands southwest of Fort Wayne, will offer a host of wonderful day and evening events in Winter and Spring 2008. All are free and open to the community!
Exciting Evening Programs:
•Wednesday, February 20, 6:30-8:00 p.m. “Twilight Winter Wonderland” – Sunset Hike with Betsy Yankowiak, LRWP’s Executive Director. Experience the mysteries of Eagle Marsh on a snowy (we hope!) evening. Meet at the Eagle Marsh barn on the south side of Engle Road 1/2 mile east of W. Jefferson Blvd., Fort Wayne.
•Monday, April 28, 7:00-8:30 p.m. “Amphibian Ecology and Conservation” – Dr. Bruce Kingsbury, IPFW Biology Professor and Director of the Center for Reptile and Amphibian Conservation and Management. Learn about the cool salamanders, frogs and turtles that may be at LRWP’s preserves and how these indicate habitat health. Meet at the Aboite Library, 5630 Coventry Lane, Fort Wayne in the large meeting room.
•Little River Ramblers Nature Hikes at Eagle Marsh every Tuesday 9-11 a.m. Leave from the Boy Scout Office parking lot at the end of Olde Canal Place Road (Verizon exit on W. Jefferson).
•Themed Nature Hikes First Saturday of every month, 1-3 p.m.
-March 1 – “If It Quacks Like a Duck” — Welcome migrating ducks with long time Stockbridge Audubon Members and Indiana Master Naturalists Ed & Cynthia Powers. Meet at the Eagle Marsh barn on the south side of Engle Road 1/2 mile east of W. Jefferson Blvd., Fort Wayne.
-April 5 – “Salamander Eggs-stravaganza!” – We’ll look for reptile, bird, salamander, and other amphibians’ eggs. Join Nancy Bradtmiller, CRC, at the Eagle Marsh barn on the south side of Engle Road 1/2 mile east of W. Jefferson Blvd., Fort Wayne to begin this wetland egg hunt.
-Breakfast on the Marsh: 8-10 a.m., second Thursday of every month. Well seasoned nature lovers (50+), join us for breakfast, a nature presentation, and an optional walk at Eagle Marsh. We meet at Coventry Meadows Senior Community on W.
