FRANCIS RICHARD “DICK” CARTER, 82, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Friday, September 14, 2012. He died peacefully at his home after a lengthy illness and went to a long awaiting heavenly reunion with so many who have gone before, including his loving wife.
He was born January 7, 1930 in Wayne County, Indiana to the late Francis E. and Edith G. (Batchelor) Carter. Mr. Carter retired in 1988 from International Harvester. Over the course of many years he also worked as an ordained minister, serving at Christ Cathedral as associate pastor and then serving as an associate at Third Street Church of God and lastly at Light of Christ Ministries where he was a member.
Surviving are his daughters, Paula (Timothy) Gomez and Linda (Kenneth) Baker, both of Fort Wayne; sister, Betty (James Franklin) Kirkman of Fort Wayne; grandchildren, Rachel (Daniel) Whiteley, Nicholas (Julia) Philpot, and Jessica (Bobby Joe) Clarke, all of Fort Wayne, and Sarah Wiegand of Herndon, Virginia; and great grandchildren, Aiden Whiteley, Xander Whiteley, Elizabeth Whiteley, and Ezra Philpot.
Also preceding him in death was his wife Gladys (Ramsey) Carter in 2007; granddaughters, Tanya and Lisel Wiegand; and great grandson, Sean Whiteley.
Funeral service was Wednesday, September 19, 2012 at 10:30 A.M. at Elzey-Patterson-Rodak Home for Funerals, 6810 Old Trail Road, Fort Wayne, IN 46809. Visitation was on Tuesday, September 18, 2012 from 4 to 8 P.M. at the Funeral Home. Burial will be in Highland Park Cemetery.
