THOMAS MICHAEL MURPHY “MIKE”, 83 passed away on Tuesday, June 17, 2014 at Lutheran Hospital. He was born on June 22, 1930 in Huntington, West Virginia. He moved to Fort Wayne in March 1941 after the death of his father. Mike graduated from Central Catholic High School in 1948. He was a veteran of the Korean War. Mike married Nancy Freistroffer on October 25, 1958. He retired from ITT in 1993. He was a member of St. Therese Catholic Church. He belonged to the Ancient Order of the Hibernians, the American Legion, and was awarded a Sagamore of the Wabash. Mike loved his family and his extended family. He was the life of every party who enjoyed playing in his yard, spending time with his family at Lake James, vacationing in Orange Beach with dear friends, and bragging about his 3 daughters and 6 grandchildren.
He was a fun-loving husband, papa, grandpa, father-in-law, brother, and friend. Mike and his wife, Nancy, enjoyed traveling. They rafted down the Colorado River through the Grand Canyon in 2008 to celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary.
He is survived by his wife Nancy; and his daughters Molly (John) Creamer, Kate Hardesty, and Megan (Chip) Garver; and his grandchildren Abigail Hardesty (17), Caroline (12) and Annemarie (8) Creamer, and Freddy (11), Michael (9), and Pete (6) Garver; and his sister Alice Ann Weldon and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Marie (Stier) Murphy; and his 3 brothers John “Jack”, Donald, and Bart Murphy.
A Mass of Christian Burial was Saturday, June 21, 2014 at 11:00 A.M. at St. Therese Catholic Church, 2304 Lower Huntington Road, Fort Wayne, IN 46819 with visitation 1 hour prior to the service. Visitation is also on Friday, June 20, 2014 from 4 to 8 PM at Elzey-Patterson-Rodak Home For Funerals, 6810 Old Trail Road, Fort Wayne, IN 46809. Burial will be in Catholic Cemetery.
