DANIEL R. GLOY AND RYAN A. FARVER COMPLETE MARINE BOOT CAMP

Marine Corps Pvt. Daniel R. Gloy, son of Jeannette S. Gloy of Fort Wayne and Todd A. Gloy of Tucson, Arizona, a 2003 graduate of Wayne High School and Marine Corps Pvt. Ryan A. Farver, a 2003 graduate of Richard Milborn High School recently completed 12 weeks of basic training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot, San Diego, designed to challenge new Marine recruits both physically and mentally.

Grant Saunders named to "Who's Who in American Universities and Colleges" for 2003-2004.

Grant is a Junior in the College of Business and Arts and is majoring in Therapeutic Recreation. He is the son of Sandra Sanders and a graduate of Elmhurst High School.

Proud Young Blood Tucker Smith shot his first deer with a muzzleloader. DNR Biologist Boszor estimated this deer to be about 2.5 years of age; based on the wear and number of teeth, and the size of antlers. Tucker’s deer will be processed into brats and strips of steak. Tucker says the only kind of brats he likes are deer brats. Tucker is a student at Summit Middle School.

It was Saturday, November 15, 2003 and the annual ritual of opening day for Indiana's deer hunting. The whitetail rut was finally here. Unfortunately it was a cold and rainy day in the woods' around Fort Wayne. But that did little to impede a great day for twelve-year-old Tucker Smith.

Dan Knight and his brothers David and Dennis grew up in Waynedale at 2805 Witchwood Ave. He played little League for Earth Inc. between 1959 and 1962. He graduated from Elmhurst High School in 1967 and then spent two years in Vietnam ('69 &'70). He served with the 25th Infantry, Artillery Division, at a place called CuChi just south of Saigon. After Vietnam, Dan attended college, graduating with a degree in tool design. Between 1978 and 1986 he worked at Industra Products near Baer Field....

Miss Teen pageant contestant, Lauren Kowalenko, Elmhurst student, Walgreen employee, President of Health Occupational Students of America.

Lauren Marie Kowalenko of Sandpoint Road was recently selected to participate in Nationals 2003 Miss Teen Northern Indiana pageant competition that will take place on November 23, 2003. Lauren is the oldest of five children and is a senior at Elmhurst High School. She studies medicine at Anthis Career Center and will have earned a Certified Nursing Assistant license in May of 2004 when she graduates. The Elmhurst Trojans completed their 2003 football season by losing the first game of the sectional to Bishop Dwenger 56-19. Dwenger came onto the Trojan home field hoping that a big win might erase the loss they experienced back at the first game of the season. Dwenger got the win, but there was no way to erase the earlier loss. The win back on August 8th was Elmhursts' first win in 64 games.

On Monday, November 10th, 2003 the Waynedale Elementary School choir, under the direction of Karen Pose, observed Veterans Day by singing in patriotic theme. This is the first annual Veterans Day Event put together by Principal Dave Yard and Jennifer Sprague. "We just wanted to do something to honor local veterans," said Principal Dave Yard. "We feel it is important for the kids to get a sense of patriotism and the cost of freedom."
