VETERANS DAY DIPLOMA

It was late in the day last Monday, Veteran's Day, when an elderly man wearing a mortarboard showed up at The Waynedale News. Bob Hughes, of 1627 Shoreview Drive, was carrying a new high school diploma. The lines in his face assured me he was close to being an octogenarian, but his smile was that of a 'brand' new high school graduate.

SHEPLER’S CELEBRATE 50 GOLDEN YEARS

Leonard E. Shepler and Elvena Joy Stucky were married Nov. 30th, 1952 at the Grabill Evangelical Mennonite Church. Leonard worked for Fort Wayne Community Schools as an elementary teacher for 17 years, and retired in 1983. His wife, Joy worked as a nurse at St. Joseph Hospital and retired in 1982.

AREA WOMAN PUBLISHES FIRST BOOK

Details

Marcia Laker, of 1412 Hawthorne Road, has published her first book of poems. Her new book, RECENT sightings, is an invitation to its' readers to participate in the creative process by contributing their own ideas. The author draws on her experience as a woman maturing in a changing society, grounded in tradition yet rising with new opportunity.

Marcia will be at the Million Story Book Company for a book signing on December 8, 2002 at 2:00pm.

WAYNEDALE VETERANS’ NEWS

Details On October 27, 2002 American Legion Post #296, Tillman Road, saw 2 of their members take home the 4th District Pool Tournament trophy (1st time since 1993). Post #499, Hilegas Road, was host to the October tournament which saw 22 teams compete. The father-son team of Duane and Devin DuMont were the winners. Duane is a Post #296 Legion member and Devin is a S.A.L. member. The first place trophy is on display at the post until the November tournament at the Monroeville Post #420.

Rick Cartwright, Chair of the USF Art & Visual Communication Department has announced that a Watercolor Exhibition will be held through Saturday, December 1, 2002.
