#13, John Gayday; crosses the plate as Elmhurst teammates come out for congratulations.

Thursday, April 18, was a warm cloudy day, a beautiful day for baseball. When I got to the Elmhurst baseball diamond, It was Elmhurst nothing, Dwenger nothing. This warm snap had brought the people out in droves. Both the visitor and home stands were almost full to capacity. Many of the male spectators were milling around on the sidelines, too edgy to sit in the bleachers, each rooting for their team and for their son.

There's just something special about baseball. Maybe it's a carryover...

They had not had an update to their playground for over 25 years and in 2001, the PTA set a goal to buy new equipment and have it installed. With a blast of sirens and flashing lights from Waynedale's finest Police and Fire Departments, the 2002 Waynedale Memorial Day Parade will begin its route at The Waynedale United Methodist Church, at the intersection of Old Trail Road and Church Street.

“Explorer Post of the Year”---Explorer Post #2868

Explorer Post 2868, the Youth Career Exploration program of the IN Air National Guard was named "Explorer Post of the Year" for the 2001-2002 year at the annual Exploring and Venturing Awards dinner.

Post 2868, celebrating its tenth year as an Explorer Post, was selected from over 80 units in Northeast Indiana for the award.

One of Indiana Tech's finest basketball players and the first person inducted into Tech's Sports Hall of Fame died Thursday, April 18, 2002. He was the only Fort Wayne College basketball player to be drafted by the Fort Wayne Zollner Pistons. At 6-2 he was too small to be a forward or center and not quick enough to be a pro guard. He did survive late cuts.
