Bishop Luers 2016 Val Sal

The seniors gathered in the basement of the Cathedral Center dressed in their cap and gown on Friday, May 27 as a Baccalaureate Mass was held at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception for the Bishop Luers Class of 2016. Following the Mass, a Graduate Luncheon was held at the Grand Wayne Center. Forgetting the handshake and going for the hug, the Class of 2016 crossed the Bishop Luers stage during Graduation Ceremonies later that day.

Memorial Day again and memories . . .I saw pink and white peonies, families and friends sitting along Old Trail Road watching the Memorial Day parade and a beautiful military ceremony honoring those that were lost.

ACRES National Trail Day

ACRES Land Trust invites the public to launch summer with a fun, engaging hike celebrating the American Hiking Society’s National Trails Day. Roberts Teacher of the Year

Mayor Tom Henry announced that the City of Fort Wayne’s Blue Star Banner program will continue in 2016.

The Blue Star Banner initiative started in May 2014 and recognizes City of Fort Wayne residents and City government employees who are actively deployed. Through the first two years of the initiative, 52 banners have been displayed to honor service members.

On May 16, Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic School recognized 8th graders Lauren Davis and Mary Cicchiello at the Allen County Non-Public School Association breakfast for Distinguished Graduates.

The criteria for choosing the Distinguished Graduates include academics, extra-curricular activities, leadership and being a Christian witness and role model.

Also attending the breakfast were Principal Lois Widner and the parents of Lauren Davis and Mary Cicchiello.

ROONEY FAMILY SCHOLARSHIP

Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic School held the essay contest for the annual Rooney Family Entrepreneurial Scholarship. Students submit their essays without their names on the essays on a selected topic, which varies from year to year. This year’s essay topic was “Is someone a born leader or can he/she be taught to be a leader? If you think it’s a skill that can be taught, what are the things a person can do to learn leadership?”

WDP Fire Engines Crowd

The Waynedale Memorial Day Parade has been scheduled! With a blast of sirens and flashing lights from Fort Wayne’s finest Police and Fire Departments, the 2016 Waynedale Memorial Day Parade will begin its route at the Waynedale United Methodist Church, at the intersection of Old Trail Road and Church Street.
