Two members from the Wayne High School Class of 2006 have been selected as part of the Youth Leadership Fort Wayne program for the 2003-2004 school year. Cierra Kindy and Antonio Hollis (not available for photo) will be attending five day-long sessions. A Saturday orientation and an overnight retreat are part of the schedule of events.

Charles Rathsack, Commander of American Legion Post 241 in Waynedale presented a check for $1,500.00 to Jane Avery, Executive Director of Community Harvest Food Bank of Northeast Indiana, Inc. to help provide for the needs of hungry people in our area. ‑The need for food this year is more than double what it was a year ago. Many people are needing to ask for food help for the first time in their lives due to the flood and many job losses in our area.

Local Students attend Symposium for Tomorrows Leaders

Bishop Luers students Alex Krouse & Kelly Burkhart were invited by U.S. Senator Dick Lugar to attend his Symposium for Tomorrows Leaders at the University of Indianapolis on December 13th, 2003. GE Industrial Systems' Motors & Controls plant is demolishing one of its oldest buildings. "Building 17 has not been used for manufacturing since 1984," said Mark Gliebe, General Manager, GE Industrial Systems Motors & Controls. "We believe the building is unsafe; and by removing it, we are helping improve safety for our employees and the surrounding community."

Bernie Noll, Pump Captain for the Southwest Fire Department directs firefighting crew during a fire causing total damage to a shed on the Smith property located at 3911 Knoll Road. The fire was caused when burning leaves got too close to the structure.

A year ago, Lance Corporal Tony Moore was enjoying the afterglow of a Bishop Luers State Championship football victory over Southridge at the RCA Dome. Forty days from now, he will probably be in Iraq. Tony joined the Marines about four months ago in the Deferred Enlistment Program. He graduated from Luers in May, and the Marines called him in August to start his basic training. He did Basic in San Diego, where he was named the # 1 recruit out of 478 fellow Marines.

DANIEL R. GLOY AND RYAN A. FARVER COMPLETE MARINE BOOT CAMP

Marine Corps Pvt. Daniel R. Gloy, son of Jeannette S. Gloy of Fort Wayne and Todd A. Gloy of Tucson, Arizona, a 2003 graduate of Wayne High School and Marine Corps Pvt. Ryan A. Farver, a 2003 graduate of Richard Milborn High School recently completed 12 weeks of basic training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot, San Diego, designed to challenge new Marine recruits both physically and mentally.

Grant is a Junior in the College of Business and Arts and is majoring in Therapeutic Recreation. He is the son of Sandra Sanders and a graduate of Elmhurst High School.
