I met Laife Janovyak this week and found out we have something in common. We both have a passion for hats. Hers was a black one that fit closely to her head and it was charming.

Laife is a senior and the second oldest of five daughters living in Indian Village. Her older sister, Emily, was married last year and lives in Scotland. They moved here from Norwalk, Ohio after the unexpected death of their father. Friends here asked them to come to Fort Wayne.

BLHS invites all interested 7th grade students to the annual 7th grade visitation mornings. Students can visit either Wednesday, May 8th or Thursday, May 9th from 8:30am to 10:30am. VIOLA’S EASTER

Details photo by Cindy Cornwell Viola’s Special Day was celebrated with (l to r) Victor and Barbara, Lynwood and Doris, all from Fort Wayne, and  daughter and her husband; Rosalie and Monty DeWitt from Tucson, Arizona.

Viola's family and friends traveled from all over to spend a "special" day with her on Easter Sunday, March 31st, 2002. Viola Mahnensmith Fitch turned 100 years old.

Viola was born in Ossian, Indiana. She graduated in 1920 from Ossian High School. During the summer of 1920, Viola took classes at Ball State University. She was then hired by the Ossian Township Trustee and began teaching all eight grades in a one-room schoolhouse. Viola said she had to walk a mile every morning to open the...

IT WAS JUST A DANGED OLD COTTONWOOD

It measured 15 foot around the base and stood over 120 feet tall. It was located at 2427 Allegany Avenue and stood a quiet sentinel over the Sandpoint Gardens Addition for longer than the addition had been there. It was a sapling before the First World War and saw the beginnings of the automobile and the industrial revolution. A lighting strike in the spring of 1998 sealed its doom. EVERYDAY IS OPEN HOUSE AT HOLY SCRIPTURE

Jamie Gieschen has been awarded three scholarships from VU. She has received the Martin Luther Award, the Lutheran Heritage Award, and the Lutheran High School Award. PALM SUNDAY GROUNDBREAKING

Details Father Joseph Rulli Center directing procedures for the groundbreaking ceremony.

On Palm Sunday, 03-24-02, the St Therese Church parishioners, diocesan representatives and community leaders broke ground for a new worship facility. The ceremony took place after the 11: 30am mass with Bishop John M. D'Arcy and Father Joseph Rulli presiding. Unlike other groundbreakings, all parishioners were invited to bring their own shovels.
