Marcia Laker, of 1412 Hawthorne Road, has published her first book of poems. Her new book, RECENT sightings, is an invitation to its' readers to participate in the creative process by contributing their own ideas. The author draws on her experience as a woman maturing in a changing society, grounded in tradition yet rising with new opportunity.

Marcia will be at the Million Story Book Company for a book signing on December 8, 2002 at 2:00pm.

On October 27, 2002 American Legion Post #296, Tillman Road, saw 2 of their members take home the 4th District Pool Tournament trophy (1st time since 1993). Post #499, Hilegas Road, was host to the October tournament which saw 22 teams compete. The father-son team of Duane and Devin DuMont were the winners. Duane is a Post #296 Legion member and Devin is a S.A.L. member. The first place trophy is on display at the post until the November tournament at the Monroeville Post #420.

Rick Cartwright, Chair of the USF Art & Visual Communication Department has announced that a Watercolor Exhibition will be held through Saturday, December 1, 2002. The exhibit is in the Weatherhead Gallery in the Mimi and Ian Rolland Center off Leesburg Road on the east side of campus. The show features works by Joe Anderson, Louise Cartwright, Jacqueline Gnott, Scott Kilmer, Lori Langenhop...

CHARLIE RATHSACK, Commander American Legion Post #241, 7605 Bluffton Road, Waynedale served in the U.S. Army. Commander Charlie served during the Korean War (1949-53). As a Squadron Leader in the 16th Infantry, he was later transferred upon request, by the 1st Division Provost Marshall to the 1st Division Military Police (1st Division Military Police is the oldest Military Police Company in the U.S. Army). STEVE BRANSTRATOR, Commander VFW Post #1421, 7712 Bluffton Road, Waynedale served in the U. S. Marine Corps 1965, Vietnam 1966-67. Following Vietnam, Steve served in California at Camp Pendleton 1967-68.

Steve has been honored as All American Commander in 1998-1999. Was 4th District Commander 2000-2001. Steve is also an advocate of Veterans Hospital.

To become a member of a VFW Post one must have served and be in harms way during a war.

GENE ZINKIEWICZ, Commander American Legion Lincoln Post #82, 3501 Harris Road, Fort Wayne served 3 tours of duty in Vietnam from 1963-67 as a Helicopter Rescue Air Crewman stationed with Combat Support Squadron One, U.S. Navy.

American Legion Post #82 is the 3rd largest post in the State of Indiana with a membership in the Auxiliary, Sons of the American Legion, and Legionaires of over 3,000 members. They are very proud of their commitment to the community and Veterans.

GARY DIEDRICH, Commander American Legion Post #160, 1122 N. Main, Roanoke.

Commander Diedrich has been an active member of the legion for over 25 years. He took over the position in 1999 when Commander Gene Davis passed away.

On Monday, November 11th, Veterans Day, Post #160 will be having a Rabbit Feed starting at 5pm.

LARRY THIELE, Commander American Legion Post #296, 130 West Tillman Road, Fort Wayne served in the U. S. Army, Military Police, and as an Airborne Paratrooper. He served 2 years in Vietnam.

After returning home Larry joined the American Legion and was given the assignment as 3rd Vice by the 1st Vice Officer for Flag Etiquette Program Chairman.
