A LETTER FROM THE POE, INDIANA VOLUNTEER FIRE DEPARTMENT

 

Dear Friends,

On August 23 and 24, 2002, the Poe Volunteer Fire Department will be holding their 64th Annual Fireman's Festival. This is our main fund-raiser for the year. We turn to fund-raising to help cover the increasing costs of training and operations. Our funds are acquired by township contracts, donations, and fund-raisers.

St. Aloysius Catholic Church, Yoder, will host its annual Summerfest on Saturday, Aug. 10, and Sunday, August 11. Summerfest is an annual parish fund-raiser and includes activities for all ages.

New this year will be a round and square dance on Saturday featuring Heartland II from 7 to 10 p.m. in the parish activity center. Cost of the dance is $5 per person or $15 per family. Snacks and beverages will be available.

THE NOELS CELEBRATE THEIR 50th WEDDING ANNIVERSARY

 

Bennett and Pat Noel will celebrate their fiftieth wedding anniversary with several family activities. Bennett and Pat were classmates in Garrett High School and graduated in the same class. They were married on August 29, 1952 in Auburn, Indiana and have lived in the Waynedale area since 1953.

Bennett retired from the Air National Guard at Baer Field and Pat retired from the Lincoln National Life Insurance Company. They enjoy traveling...

VETERANS' OFFICER RECEIVES AMERICANISM AWARD

The Allen County Council of Veterans presented its 2002 Americanism Award to George Jarboe, Allen County Veterans' Service Officer. Jarboe received the award during the Council of Veterans' Americanism Awards Banquet, held on Friday, July 26, 2002, at the Allen County War Memorial Coliseum. He received the award from Roy Allison, past commander of the Allen County Council.

Kenney Tyler left for the Army one week after he graduated from Northside High School in 1996. He was stationed at Fort Bliss as a patriot missile loader. During his first four years he was sent to Saudi two times where he met the woman of his dreams. She also was a soldier. They married on January 22, 2000. St. Therese began as 'St. Therese Church of the Little Flower'. It was an army-style chapel that was purchased in 1947 and moved from Baer Field Airport to Lower Huntington Road. The Army Chapel caught fire in 1950, and again in 1970. After the second fire, the church was redesigned into the present school/church combination. St. Therese's congregation has outgrown the old structure and a new church has been in the planning stages for four years. A pledge drive was held in November of 2000...

For late summer fun for the whole family at an affordable price, it's pretty hard to beat 4-H Fairs. Opening day for the Allen County 4-H Fair will be on Monday, July 22 and will continue through Saturday, July 27, 2002 at the Allen County Fairgrounds, 2726 Carroll Road. Admission is only $3.
