Agnes (Beard) Hughes was born in Portland, Indiana on June 16, 1904. Her father was an engineer and drove the line between Delphis and Lima. Her grandparents knew the Wright Brothers, and allowed them to build some of their airplanes in their barn in Plymouth, Ohio.

Agnes family moved to Fort Wayne when she was fourteen and other than a few years in Florida, she has been here ever since.

St. Joseph-St. Elizabeth School is proud to announce their 2 Distinguished Graduates for 2003-2004. On the left, Shelly Miller, daughter of Tom and Mary Miller, and Brittany Kleber, daughter of John and Dawn Kleber. The zoo is open every day from 9:00am to 5:00pm until October 10th. Admission is $7.50 for adults, $5.00 for children age 2-14 and for seniors over age 60. Babies under age 2 and Zoo Society Members are admitted free.

Waynedale's parade will proceed down Old Trail Road with Colors and Units from American Legion Post 241, AMVets Post 33, VFW Post 1421 and the 40@8 locomotive to follow. There will be clowns, clowns, and more clowns, antique cars and trucks, fire engines, dogs, cats, horses and bikes. The parade ends at the Prairie Grove Cemetery.

A ceremony to honor all soldiers follows at the cemetery. The Master of Ceremony for Waynedale's 2004 Memorial Day will be Ron Kizer.

James Patrick Nill (Jayme) was born on March 17th, 1977 at St. Joseph's Hospital in Fort Wayne. His parents, Jim and June Nill took him home to his then residence of 1927 Maplewood Avenue in the Avalon Neighborhood of Waynedale. Growing up in such a close community, Jayme was able to play with the other neighborhood kids and swim at the Avalon pool. On Monday, May 17th 2004, a visit by WWII Veterans Max Snodgrass, Ed Stoppenhagen, Mike Miller, Everett Zellers, and Norm Braun took place at Richard Milburn High School, 508 East Washington Blvd. This visit was arranged by instructor Keith Roman from Milburn High School and Commander Larry Thiele of David Parrish American Legion Post 296, 130 West Tillman Road, Fort Wayne.

Navy Petty Officer 1st Class Mary T. Anderson, daughter of Martha J. Anderson of Fort Wayne, IN, is currently in the middle of a routine, scheduled deployment to the Mediterranean Sea while assigned to the guided missile destroyer USS Cole, homeported in Norfolk, VA.

Anderson's ship is part of the USS Enterprise Carrier Strike Group, deployed in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. The primary mission of Anderson's ship is to provide multi-mission offensive and defensive capabilities. USS...

On Saturday, May 15th, Brownie Troop #704 participated in the Great American Clean-up. They worked cleaning the Belle Vista neighborhood, in the Remington and Rosalia Drive area. It was a chilly Saturday morning but the kids pitched right in and got the job done. There was an after clean-up party at Headwaters Park which provided hot dogs and chips and featured music between 11:30am and 2:00pm.
