Officials at the Fort Wayne-Allen County Airport Authority and WANE TV are pleased to announce the winners of this year’s “Home for the Holidays” contest. Entries were submitted via short essay explaining why the soldier deserves a trip home this holiday season. Chief of Police Garry Hamilton joins with Holiday Cab to announce the return of the program that provides free cab rides home to impaired drivers during the holiday season. In its 28th year of service, the Holiday Cab program runs from Thursday, Dec. 17 to Friday, Jan. 1 from 8 p.m. to 2 a.m.

“The Holiday Cab program provides a great community service,” Chief Hamilton said. “We applaud and support their mission to reduce impaired driving and get everyone home safely.”

Prairie Grove chapel Parishioners

There are many reasons why a person should love and embrace the Christmas season here in Waynedale. One of them is Waynedale’s little white-framed chapel service along Old Trail Road, where a Hallmark Christmas will happen.

Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic School sixth grader Gia Virgilio was watching a favorite You Tube channel when she was first introduced to the Thirst Project, an organization whose mission is to “Build a socially-conscious generation of young people who end the global water crisis,” according to its website. The Thirst Project is committed to funding and building clean water projects in the countries of Swaziland, India, Uganda, Ethiopia, El Salvador, Kenya and Colombia.

Ouabache State Park’s annual “Wonderland of Lights” display will be open for public viewing November 26-December 20, every Friday through Sunday, and every night during Christmas week, December 21-27.

Viewing of campground light displays will be available from 5:30-9 p.m. Visitors are encouraged to vote for their favorite site.

Special readings of “”Twas the Night Before Christmas” will be held at Trails End Shelter, Dec. 5, 12, 19 and 24, from 5:30-7 p.m.
