Eleven residents of Kingston Residence ranging in age 72 to 97 years proudly completed the Fort 4 Fitness Senior Marathon. The race began on Thursday, June 26 at the Ash Center on Freeman Street. Over the next 12 weeks, each participant was challenged to walk an average of two miles per week. As the race concluded on Friday, September 26 at Parkview Field, each participant was to have accumulated a total of 26 miles which equals a full marathon.

Jude Stark grew up in Waynedale, Indiana. She attended Waynedale Elementary School and Elmhurst High School. After graduation she enrolled in the nursing program at Lutheran Hospital to fulfill her lifelong dream. Her family was proud of her ambition and enthusiasm, especially her dad. Her dream was postponed when she fell in love and married Spike Cline. Her focus changed while fulfilling duties as a housewife and mother of two, but her dream never faded.

SCHREIBER-WEDDING-ANNIVERSARY

John and Carol Morrical Schreiber, Ossian, will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary on September 20th. They were married in 1964 at First Church of Christ, Bluffton, Indiana.

John retired from G.E. in 2002 with 40 years of service and Carol in 2004 with just under 40 years.

The Joy Class at Markle Church of Christ hosted a surprise party in their honor at Zianos on September 13th.

Indiana National Guard Adjutant General, Maj. Gen. R. Martin Umbarger, is pleased to announce the selection of Col. Patrick R. Renwick as the 122nd Fighter Wing commander effective September 13.

Renwick succeeds Col. David Augustine who has commanded the more than 1,000 airmen of the 122nd Blacksnakes, headquartered in Fort Wayne, Indiana, since January 2011.

Dr. Eric Foner, DeWitt Clinton Professor of History at Columbia University, will be the annual keynote speaker at the 2014 R. Gerald McMurtry Lecture. This year's lecture will be held in the Lower Level Theater of the Allen County Public Library, 900 Library Plaza, on Friday, September 26 at 7PM. Our 12th annual Waynedale "Picnic in the Park" was a great success again this year. The rain did not keep us away to prepare and held off for the day. Starting at 10 am the sign-up booth was ready to sign everyone up for door prizes. Those that sign up were qualified for free door prizes donated and bought for all ages. The muddy areas hindered us some but fortunately the kids did not mind at all and though some of the areas got a little slippery we fortunately had no problems.

A chili cook-off to benefit the Allen County SPCA will be held at Lucky Harley Davidson, 6315 Illinois Road (at I-69) in Fort Wayne on Saturday, September 27 from noon – 3:00 p.m.

The chili challenge will feature chili ranging from mild to wild prepared by individuals, firehouses, community groups and teams from the Chili Appreciation Society International (CASI). Chili fans will be sampling their wares and casting their votes to decide who has the "best doggone chili".

Community Harvest Food Bank of Northeast Indiana has been awarded a $5,000 grant by Ameriprise Financial to support Feeding Seniors Hunger-Relief Initiative. This Initiative's programs serve low-income senior citizens by helping to keep food insecurity off the list of worries for needy seniors.
