Waynedale American Legion Post #241 is now offering classes in firearm safety and marksmanship. This is a nationwide Legion program that holds a perfect safety record. The classes will be conducted by certified trainers in a clean and wholesome atmosphere. They will be held in an area secluded from the bar area, and absolutely no alcohol will be tolerated. This includes the parents. Participants can be any gender, through age of 18. Handicapped youth are encouraged to participate.
Competitive shooting is not a sport which gives an advantage to those of greater size or strength. Physical fitness and stamina are important, but it is mental toughness and self-discipline which determines success.
Competitive shooting is also one of the few sports where men and women can compete as equals. It is truly a sport which is open to anyone!
The American Legion is a member of the I.O.C. and as a result has set this program up on the Olympic format. The National Finals are held each year at the Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, CO.
The Firearm Safety and Marksmanship Training program is FREE to those who wish to participate. The only cost would be an entry fee to completion match if they choose to compete. There will be a meeting at the Legion Post to more fully explain what to expect from this course. It is for the youth and their parents to learn more. It is also to help us gauge community interest as we set up classes Open to the community-You do not have to be a member of the American Legion. The meeting is on Monday, August 27th at 7pm. Use the Bingo Entrance on the east side of the building to enter.
