Text Size:

The University of Saint Francis Athletic Hall of Fame will welcome four new members in October on Homecoming Weekend.

Leading the four-person class is Cory Jacquay, who was the NAIA Rawlings Football Player-of-the-Year in 2004. He is joined by Josh Widman (Baseball), Casey Shafer (Cross Country/Track & Field) and Andy Martin (Golf).

Jacquay is a 2006 USF graduate (New Haven High School) who set one USF single-game record (100-yard kickoff return for TD which tied MSFA record), set two USF single-season records (all-purpose yards – 1,980, 2004), tied one (TDs, 20, 2004), and three USF career records (all-purpose yards – 6,772; points scored – 376; TDs scored – 61). He set one Mid-States Football Association single-season freshman conference record (all-purpose yards 1,511, 2002) and set an MSFA career record for all-purpose yards gained (6,772).

Widman became just the second USF baseball player to earn NAIA All-America as an honorable mention selection in 2006 as a junior. In four seasons, the Findlay, Ohio native set five USF career records: RBI (114), hits (189), runs scored (110), doubles (41) and at-bats (570). He also set a single-season record for RBI with 48 in 53 games in 2006 and tied the single-season record for doubles (16).

Shafer was All-Conference five times (3 track & field, 2 cross country) and became USF's first and still only NAIA Cross Country National Championship Meet qualifier in 2001 as a senior. He still has USF's top 10 times in the 1,500-meter run, the top eight times in the 5,000-meter run and the top six times in the 10,000-meter run for track & field.

Andy Martin, a Tippecanoe Valley High School graduate, earned his USF degree in 2005. He is a three-time All-Conference (MCC) selection who averaged 76.3 his senior year when he finished fourth in the Mid-Central College Conference (now Crossroads League).

This is the 20th class of USF AHOF inductees, which started with the class of 1989. The USF AHOF will expand to 68 individuals and three teams. The Alumni and Athletic Hall of Fame awards celebration will be at the USF North Campus on Friday, October 11, starting at 7 p.m.
