KOREAN WAR VETERANS ASSOCIATION INDIANA CHAPTER ONE PROGRAM AVAILABLE
The Korean War Veterans Assn., Indiana Chapter One has a wonderful 'Tell America Program' and would like to present it to your school students. They want to tell about the Korean War so that it will no longer be referred to as the "Forgotten War." They can also give information on the special Holidays (July 4th, Memorial Day, and most important Veterans Day) and how they originated. Please give Jim Snyder (260) 484-9255 or Lynn Shady (260) 484-5278 a call for this wonderful program.

FLAG ETIQUETTE (Taken from Let's Be Right on Flag Etiquette)
Question: How are changes in the Flag Code made?
Answer: Since the Flag Code is Public Law; it may be changed by the passage of appropriate legislation in Congress, or, as provided in the law itself, by proclamation of the President.
Executive Order No. 10834 issued by President Dwight D. Eisenhower on August 24, 1959, amended the provisions of Title 4, U.S.C., Chapter 1 and established the 50 star Flag as the official Flag of the United States, effective on July 4, 1960
Question: What is the significance of the gold fringe which we see on some American Flags?
Answer: Records indicate that fringe was first used on the Flag as early as 1835. It was not until 1895 that it was officially added to the National Flag for all regiments of the Army. For civilian use, fringe is not required as an integral part of the Flag, nor can its use be said to constitute an unauthorized addition to the design prescribed by statute. It is considered that fringe is used as an honorable enrichment only. (Military tradition)
Note: If any unit, legion, Amvet, boy scout, girl scout, cub scout, etc. is collecting American flags and holding a flag disposal ceremony, let us know and we'll publish the details in The Waynedale News.
