Talk about 'sticker shock', I got the surprise of my life the other day. My grandson Raymond Andrew recently joined Cub Scout Pack 3025 sponsored by South Wayne Elementary School or at least that's where they meet. I had promised Andrew that I would buy his first uniform shirt. I'll get to the sticker shock in a moment.

When our own two boys, Patrick and Michael, joined the Cub Scouts, you could find good used shirts at Salvation Army, Goodwill, or in garage sales. You can never find them...

To the Editor,

The Four Chaplains of World War II are remembered in February because their ship sank off the coast of Greenland on February 3, 1943. American Legion Post 296 will honor them with a short interfaith ceremony on Tuesday, February 19.

These four U.S. Army Chaplains were on the Dorchester, Troop ship carrying 900 soldiers. When the ship was struck by a torpedo, the four chaplains passed out life jackets until all were gone. Then they took off their own precious jackets, gave...

Oooooohhhhh I just have to tell you where Wayne and I stopped to eat on our way back home two weeks ago. We were out of state visiting Wayne's relatives down Columbus way recently. During a match Thursday, January 31st at Hillcrest Bowling Lanes, 36 lanes were being occupied with the Boys varsity taking up 12 lanes, Girls varsity 12 lanes, and JV's 12 lanes.

The Fort Wayne High School Bowling Conference has two divisions. The North Division comprising Bishop Dwenger...

I don't think I ever told anyone publicly but I love the town of Waynedale, Indiana. Of course it doesn't look anything like the small town that I came from in West Virginia 37 years ago. First of all, Gassaway, West Virginia is built partly on the side a mountain and when viewed on a topography map it looks like a peninsula, surrounded on three sides by water; Waynedale is for all practical purposes – flat. Part of Gassaway is on the banks of Elk River; Waynedale has a small creek and a...
