Oooooohhh I just have to tell you what has gone on since my last column. Wayne and I have healed up nicely thank you so very much. I think the cards and letters we received from you good folks in Waynedale and the surrounding area helped. Bobby Stark even got a concerned phone call from California inquiring as to the state of our health. It was from a widower who was awestruck with my picture at the head of my column I guess; he just wanted to know how Wayne and I were getting along and he...

Baseball During The Civil War

The other day I came across a book titled "From Pastime to Passion, Baseball and the Civil War" by Patricia Millan. In her book she states that some baseball was played between regiments during the war but a holiday feast, letter or package from home got priority over a baseball game.

You see baseball told us with a baseball commemorative postage stamp issued 6/12/39 that Abner Doubleday (1819-1893) founded baseball at Cooperstown in 1839. Research later...

AT THE MOVIES WITH KASEY BUTCHER

Details

Christmas comes earlier and earlier every year. The stores put out their holiday displays before Halloween. The toy catalogues start coming before Thanksgiving, and this year so did the holiday movies. Food of Love

The parades are great and the ball games are indispensable but Thanksgiving is all about the food. For Thanksgiving most of us want what our forefathers ate and we want it prepared the way our Grandmothers cooked it. Preparing such a meal is a labor of love. If you have someone willing to turn mere groceries into a feast for you this year, or if you have someone for whom you are willing to prepare a feast, than you most definitely have reason to give thanks. Even if you have no...

Oooooohhhh I just have to tell you Wayne and I haven't been able to get out to eat at any restaurants in the area. We've both been laid up with the flu of all things. I haven't had a case like this in over thirty years. We've both had flu shots, being senior citizens and all, but it didn't do any good. My doctor said that there are over forty strains that he knew of so we must have got one that wasn't afraid of the flu vaccine that we got. So I'm afraid that I'll just have to wait till...

“FORGOTTEN MINORITIES”

Details

Living in predominately Muslim countries and even in countries where Muslims are not in the majority, hundreds of thousands of Christian minorities live under persecution for their faith. In the best case scenarios, this persecution might be limited to discrimination in the work place and in attempts to restrict their freedom to worship according to their consciences. In the worst case scenario, for example, Sudan or Saudi Arabia, Christians are subjected to the most humiliating treatment...
