Recently, I had the opportunity to visit Maplewood Elementary School here in Waynedale to help recruit Scouts for Boy Scout Troop 44, Cub Scouts for Cub Pack 3044, and Girls for Girls Scout Troop 850. I was impressed with the smooth way the school was being run. Of course some of the students were a little exuberant but then I think they wanted to show off a little for the visiting uniformed Scout leaders, Troop 44 Scoutmaster Jack Shepard and Miami District Exec Dave Kinnee. Of course I was...

AT THE MOVIES WITH KASEY BUTCHER

Halloween is just around the corner. For some people that means trips to local "haunted houses," indulging in cheap, pre-trick-or-treating candy or terrorizing the neighborhood with stupid pranks. For me it meant roping my friends into what I thought was a great idea-"The Super Spooky Halloween Double Feature." So we went to see Red Dragon and The Ring, which scared me so badly, I was afraid to close my eyes and didn't fall asleep until 2:30 the next morning.

Subject: For whom should I vote? ‑‑‑‑‑‑‑‑‑‑‑

October 22, 2002

But whom do they ask? The funeral director is a good place to start. Or call an AMERICAN LEGION, VFW, or AMVETS Post. One of the Post Officers will be more than willing to give...

Is Halloween Evil?

Halloween is literally the eve of All Saints' Day. It is a time associated in our imagination with spirits run amok; with ghosts and ghouls and all manner of hobgoblins having their way for one night of the year, only to be put back in their place on All Saints' Day.

Is Halloween something that good people should celebrate, or is it the devil's playground and something to be avoided? It is easy enough to see the connection between Halloween and witchcraft, evil spirits...

HOMETOWN VIEWS

Ooooohhh I just have to tell you about the fabulous time I had at the American Legion Post the other night. It was Friday and since Wayne was out of town for the weekend, he said he was going to visit a sick friend but I think he really went squirrel hunting, I decided to go out to eat with the girls. Hey, I'm not that old that I can't consider myself as one of the girls; I was the youngest one there and I haven't even had a hip replacement yet, so there.

They started serving dinner at 5...
