SENIOR FISHING LICENSE

Details

Each senior citizen's purchase of a discounted senior fishing license will bring the state an additional $7.90 of federal money, starting April 1, 2008, as the result of a bill signed by Gov. Mitch Daniels, March 30.

The funding gained will go toward sport fish restoration programs, and expanding and maintaining public access to lakes and streams throughout the state.

With the change, state residents 64 and older (born after March 31, 1943), must buy either a $3 senior license each year...

Oil and gas wells are being drilled in Indiana at a pace that hasn't been seen for at least 15 years, according to Herschel McDivitt, director of the DNR Division of Oil and Gas.

In 2006, the division issued more than 450 drilling permits, a number that he said he expects to steadily increase during the next several years, citing higher prices for crude oil and natural gas as the primary reason for the increase.

GREENWAY EXPANSION PLANS

Mayor Graham Richard announced the City this year will invest nearly $2 million to expand and improve greenways and trails. The Mayor made the announcement during his Report to the People speech to the Northeast Area Partnership.

IHT hopes to conserve 100,000 acres by the state bicentennial in 2016
