Registrations begin March 1 for a three-day workshop. Learn outdoor skills, such as camping, canoeing, fishing and mountain biking, at Becoming an Outdoors-Woman, May 4-6 at Ross Camp near West Lafayette, Indiana.

GREENWAY EXPANSION PLANS

Details New greenway, top right at ardmore extended.

Mayor Graham Richard announced the City this year will invest nearly $2 million to expand and improve greenways and trails. The Mayor made the announcement during his Report to the People speech to the Northeast Area Partnership.

DNR NURSERIES HAVE 1 MILLION SEEDLINGS AVAILABLE

 

The best time to plant a tree is twenty years ago, the second best time is right now. Spring is around the corner, so this is a good time to start planning for spring plantings.

DNR BUYS FARMLAND WITH TIMBER SALES REVENUE

 

The DNR has acquired 184 acres of wooded hills and gently rolling old fields in Harrison County, adjacent to Harrison-Crawford State Forest. The purchase, called Wooten Parcel, is the first using state forest timber sales revenue.

ABOITE TRAILS AWARDED $1.5 MILLION

Details This year’s event was held in memory of Dr. James Gates, who was killed on June 11, 2006 while riding his bicycle in Huntington. Classic Products graciously donated embroidery, “in memory of Dr. James Gates,” on the event t-shirts. Jim’s wife, Kathy, and son, Russ, helped lead the “Bike About Aboite” ride and were instrumental in making it a successful event.

In a perfect example of how local and state government can work together to make a difference for Fort Wayne citizens, the Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) and the City of Fort Wayne collectively awarded $1.5 million to Aboite New Trails, a grassroots non-profit organization dedicated to the expansion of multi-use trails throughout Aboite and its neighboring communities.
