One evening in January, ice fishing on the Wabash River, Jim Crow of Bluffton landed this 6lbs. 10oz. largemouth bass.  It was caught on a 1-lbs test line tipped with dough ball.   Assisting on the landing of this bass was Jim DeHoff. Truth be told..it was caught on a local farm pond north of Bluffton with Jim’s special handmade “Crow Fly” (sold exclusively at The Bluffton Gun Shop, Bluffton). Barney from The Bluffton Gun Shop said he thinks this bass could actually turn his head and sing!

Good news! Now that our one biggest national holiday (Groundhog Day) is over with I can give you the information about groundhog hunting straight from Jon Marshall of the IDNR (Indiana Department of Natural Resources). Here it is in case you've been staying up nights worrying about it. He said, "No license is required for groundhogs and there is no season or limit." There is no license required to "carry" a gun (except for handguns) in the woods. You only need a license if you're hunting....

CWD (Chronic Wasting Disease) NOT DETECTED IN INDIANA

Signs of CWD have not been detected in initial deer tissue samples collected in Indiana this past fall. State biologists and veterinarians collected tissue samples from 3,477 deer during hunting season to test for CWD, a brain-wasting condition fatal to deer. GOLDEN EAGLE SPOTTED

A golden eagle was spotted earlier this week around the Pine Grove area at Lake Monroe, but wasn't confirmed until today. The young golden eagle looks similar to an immature bald eagle, so it was a challenge to identify at first. Bald and golden eagles are nearly the same size, with bald eagles being slightly bigger. An Indiana DNR proposal to stock walleye in the Lake James Chain of Lakes in Steuben County has received a strong show of support from anglers. Over the past couple of months, more than 140 anglers voiced their opinions on a proposal to stock 190,000 1 to 2-inch walleye annually into Jimmerson Lake, Lake James and Snow Lake. More than 90 percent of those voiced complete support. Local angler Lynn Champion also submitted a 369-signature petition supporting the proposal.
