The Greenway Consortium recently received $25,000 funding for the extension of Fort

Wayne's trail network into Aboite Township. This is the second financial contribution the Consortium has received through the Aboite New Trails organization this year. This funding will be applied to a planned four-mile trail extension (currently referred to as the "Towpath Trail") from Rockhill Park to the intersection of Jefferson and Engle Roads, and will eventually connect Fort Wayne's Rivergreenway to Aboite Township trails.

"We are very pleased to be able to assist with the fundraising for this very important link between the Aboite trails network and the City's Rivergreenway," said Lynn Reecer, President, Aboite New Trails, Inc. "We are eager for residents all over Fort Wayne, Aboite Township and surrounding areas to soon be able to travel on foot or bike, back and forth between these neighboring communities."

The Aboite New Trails $25,000 donation for the Towpath project is 50% of a grant received from The Community Foundation of Greater Fort Wayne.

"Linking Aboite Township to the Rivergreenway and Fort Wayne will be a major step toward the realization of a regional trails / alternative transportation system," said George DeRoche, President of the Greenway Consortium. "Cooperation among all trail advocate groups is essential to achieving this goal; we thank both the Community Foundation of Greater Fort Wayne and Aboite New Trails for their contributions."
