THE VOICE OF THE TOWNSHIP

As you may remember, the Wayne Township Trustee Office is the host agency for the Northeast Indiana's Twenty-first Century Scholars Support Program, locally coordinated by Ms. Liddy Nern. Every year, members of my staff take scholars on a trip during spring break to visit college campuses and have a fun, positive experience. In April, we partnered with Taylor University and made this a joint venture.

Taylor has a program very similar to the statewide Twenty-first Century Scholars Program....

A few weeks ago two wind and ice storms hit us, which knocked out electrical service to thousands of citizens throughout Fort Wayne and the surrounding area. As I wrote earlier I did not feel that AEP's response was adequate at that time. I've received several calls about this matter and everyone felt that AEP's response to the emergency wasn't what it should have been. Since then I've had the opportunity to personally meet with AEP representatives. They point out that the ice storm this...

I'm pleased to report that the Great Easter Egg Hunt put on by Wayne Township's Outreach Department was a success despite the snow! The turnout surprised all of us! Kudos also to Bishop Luers' ladies' basketball team! The Lady Knights were the champions in their division in the state tournament and, like the IU men's team, won not only because of their athletic skills but also because of their...

FROM THE DESK OF SENATOR DAVID LONG

While the failure of the Governor's tax package seemed to get all of the headlines after this year's Session had ended, there were a few pieces of legislation that passed which will have a positive impact upon our community. Since you're unlikely to read about them anywhere else, I thought I'd bring them to your attention.

First, the modification of the EDGE credit bill, which I authored, was successful, though it had to be placed into a House bill in the final hours of the Session for it to...

During the first quarter of the year, my staff and I began making changes to our standards, which contains the details of how Wayne Township operates and makes decisions. Changes can be as simple as a listing the new 260 area code, or they can be complicated changes that result from recent legislative decisions. Other changes are made to improve the way we serve the public. For example, Wayne Township can only pay up to a fixed amount for shelter assistance, which varies per number of...
