As many of you know, the Governor has called for a Special Session of the State Legislature, to begin on Tuesday, May 14th. Indiana's constitution, under Article 4, Section 9, allows the Governor, and only he, to call a Special Session if, in the Governor's opinion, the public welfare shall require it. By law (IC 2-2.1-1-4) the length of the Special Session may not exceed 40 days. That means that this Session cannot last longer than June 22nd. However, the Governor can simply keep calling us...

As I regularly note at this time of the year an important holiday isn't too far off. Memorial Day is an important opportunity to say "Thank You" to all of our U.S. war veterans who sacrificed so we would have the opportunity to live in a free country. I'm convinced that without the efforts of our servicemen and women we would be living in a vastly different world without our present freedoms. I'm also convinced that we will be challenged in the future....perhaps not by Nazi or Communist...

As you may remember, the Wayne Township Trustee Office is the host agency for the Northeast Indiana's Twenty-first Century Scholars Support Program, locally coordinated by Ms. Liddy Nern. Every year, members of my staff take scholars on a trip during spring break to visit college campuses and have a fun, positive experience. In April, we partnered with Taylor University and made this a joint venture.
