City staff and I recently visited with homeowners in the Dalevue and Fernwood neighborhood. I'm very concerned for all the residents who've experienced flooding challenges. They've suffered too much. I've directed additional staff members to work on a solution. We're looking at an approach that includes a combination of infrastructure improvements, an earthen berm to protect properties from floodwaters, pumping operations and some home buyouts.

Mitch Harper - City Council, 4th District Fort Wayne

The City Administration has presented a framework of fiscal ideas calling for a 0.5% income tax increase raising local income taxes for both city and county residents by 50%. We announced at the last City Council meeting our opposition to the proposed LOIT increase and provided an alternative framework of ideas to deal with the City's structural deficit and neglect of its core responsibilities including police, fire, roads, and parks.

To say that gas prices have really shot up is an understatement. High gas prices affect all of us, but put an extra burden on low-income persons. When gas prices go up, individuals with less income must spend a larger percentage of their resources on getting to work, to the grocery store and meeting their transportation needs.
