Plans are moving forward for the extension of Ardmore Avenue. Ardmore will be extended to three lanes from Indianapolis to Lower Huntington roads. New traffic signals will be installed in the area. A new water main will be installed and stormwater improvements will be made. I have just been appointed the Chairman of the Forensic Diversion Study Commission, which is charged with the duty to track the ongoing efforts of our local criminal justice system to modernize their dealings with both the mentally ill and drug addicts. This program has the full support of the new Daniels' administration, and will take on greater and greater importance as the key programs in our criminal justice system devolves down from the state level to the local level.

At the time of this writing the Three Rivers' Festival is underway and appears to be a great success. There have been many varied activities with considerable emphasis on events appealing to kids. Earlier this week there was an unfortunate incident involving a handgun at the TRF midway. The police investigation is currently in progress. The revitalization of Southtown Mall is under way. Menards recently broke ground on its more than 225,000 square foot store at Southtown Centre. The new store is expected to open in March 2006. The Menards groundbreaking sends a message that Southtown Centre is a reality and will be an excellent retail location. We appreciate Menards' commitment to our community. Hundreds of jobs will be created, and the Southtown area will once again be an outstanding asset.
