The historic reassessment of property taxes is going very slowly in Allen County. Our County Assessor's office is about a year behind where it should have been. At last check, tax bills that were due in May and November of this year will not come out until February of 2004! Those taxes may prove to be a shock to all of us, because the normal split of ? property taxes paid in May and the other ? in November will not apply. The city elections are over—a relief to many, I'm sure. At the time of this writing the outcome of the November 4th election is still unknown. During the campaign I've had the opportunity to speak with many citizens of the Indian Village-Waynedale area as well as residents of all corners of our fine city. On Friday October 17, 2003 one of the great highlights of Wayne Township Office was lining the sidewalks in front of our office anticipating the arrival of the 1/293rd Infantry Battalion, our hometown heroes! The Township posted thank you signs and waved flags when they came down Lafayette Street to show our support and appreciation for what they had done. Plans are moving forward for installation of the new directional traffic signals at the Lower Huntington Road-Bluffton Road intersection! Hopefully that much needed signal upgrade will be completed as soon as City Council just passed a "prior approval" measure to move up the time of installation. With several new businesses—including 4 new expanding financial institutions—in Waynedale traffic will likely increase and the new signalization should be a major benefit!
