As we begin a new year in the City of Fort Wayne, we're seeing unprecedented investment and positive momentum, and our commitment to attracting and retaining jobs and businesses is making a meaningful impact.

When I look back at 2013, I'm encouraged by the teamwork and partnerships that have resulted in progress and success.

Here are a few highlights from a memorable 2013:
*City finances/Quality of life/Commitment to neighborhoods
-Passage of the fiscal policy financial plan for the future. As a result, we'll see more police officers and firefighters, record infrastructure work (streets and roads), and investments in our Parks system.

*Downtown Development
-Announcement of the $71 million Ash Brokerage/Hanning & Bean development
-Housing growth at Anthony Wayne Building and The Harrison, and more housing opportunities are being planned/constructed at other downtown locations

*Legacy projects that are moving forward
-Downtown Riverfront Development Study
-Higher Education Fund – Indiana Tech project
-McMillen Community Center
-Wells St. Bridge lighting
-Youth Sports study
-Ewing and Fairfield to two-way traffic
-Completion of UV treatment project at Water Filtration Plant
-Letter of intent to acquire Aqua Indiana Southwest
-National awards for the 311 Call Center
-National recognition for the City Fleet Department
-A new recycling App from the Solid Waste Department
-Additional awards for the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Bridge

I'm looking forward to a great 2014. Thank you for your commitment to our community.
